One of the main concepts of Founder and Director Marie Hale was she never wanted another "museum company." Mrs. Hale wanted not only to present classical ballet but also contemporary works from established, and new choreographers of all types of dance styles.
From 1986 to 2009, the original Ballet Florida presented and mounted impressive full-length classical and contemporary ballets including:

• Starry Night (Choreography by William Soleau, Commissioned by Ballet Florida)
• The Stone Flower (Choreography by Thierry Malandain, Commissioned by Ballet Florida)

Ballet Florida’s Mixed Bill performances brought astonishing variety and artistry to their audiences. Created by internationally recognized choreographers, this was unprecedented for a dance company of its size at this time. Many of these works were commissioned by the company.
Ballet Florida was extremely proud of it's artistic reputation while attracting the world's most renown and innovative creators of dance.
